Central of Pageland shot a 623 to capture the title in the Conference VIII-AA golf tournament at the Lancster Golf Club on Thursday.Buford, with a 660, placed second behind the Eagles. The Jackets were led by Trevor Banks, who shot a 143 (72-71) for the two-day event at the LGC .Taylor Banks gave the Jackets a solid one-two links punch with a 145 for the two-day tournament. Taylor Banks shot a 77-78. He joined his brother on the all-tournament team.Central High School golfers rounded out the six-man all-tournament team.Mike Burch had a 151 (75-76) and he was followed by Ben Miller’s 153 (79-74).Clifton Melton posted a 159 (81-78) and David Sullivan had a 161 (83-78) for the Eagles.Other BHS scores for Thursday were Jalen Terry, 93; Taylor Threatt, 96; Jimmy Taylor, 106; and Will Ford, 113.Cheraw placed third with a 728 team total.The CHS Eagles, Buford and Cheraw now advance to the Class AA Lower State golf tournament at Barnewll on Monday where they will compete at the Sweet Water Creek County Club.Andrew Jackson didn’t quality as a team, but had a pair of Volunteers’ golfers qualify for the Lower State tournament – Tanner Threatt and Cass Outlaw.Central held the lead after the opening day with a 316. Buford had a 332 after the opening round and Cheraw carded a 377.Eagles winThe Central Eagles prevailed in a three-way Conference VIII-AA golf match Tuesday.The Eagles shot a 163 to edge Buford, which posted a 167. Cheraw placed third with a 179.Taylor Banks led the Jackets with a 35 for medalist honors. Taylor Banks was a close second with a 36.Jalen Terry tallied a 46 and Braden Watts rounded out the BHS effort with a 50.Central was led by Ben Miller who carded a 39. Mike Burch and C.S. Caldwell added a 41 each. John Heath (88-80) and Russ Faile (82-86) each shot a 168 for the Bruins.Fort Mill High School shot a 600 to take the region title.
