FORT LAWN – The Board of Canvassers of the Chester County Elections Commission certified results on Thursday, Nov. 8,  for the town of Fort Lawn election.
In Tuesday’s election, this particular race offered three candidates vying for two open council seats.
After a recount of absentee ballots, the official results showed Councilmen Al Bellavance and Thomas Reddick were the winners in this election.
Unofficial results showed 148 votes for Reddick, 79 for Bellavance and 72 for Ferguson. In addition, there were 15 absentee votes for Reddick, seven for Bellavace and 13 for Ferguson.
On Thursday, Chester County Registration and Elections Director Earl Moore requested a recount of the absentee ballots.
“Because there is a one point (vote) difference in the votes for Mr. Bellavance and Mr. Reddick, I would suggest a recount of the absentee ballots,” Moore told the board of canvassers.
After a second tally, election results were certified with a final count of 163 votes for Reddick, 86 for Bellavance and 85 votes for Ferguson.
During the recount, write-in candidates, Michael Pate, Steve Pate, Jonathan Yarborough, William “Pat” Roddey and Jessie Varnadore, each received one vote.
Bellavance expressed gratitude for voters’ support.
“I thank all the voters and appreciate their support,” Bellavance said. “This race was close. Now, I hope to keep working with the town, mayor and council to get everything resolved we've been working on.”
Neither Ferguson nor Reddick could be reached for comment.
