The Lancaster Bassmasters, an area sportfishing club, opened its 2008 season with a pair of tournaments.

The Bassmasters’ opener was March 1 at Lake Murray where Craig Denton won first place and Chad Sims finished second. Denton and Sims were also the team winner at the Midlands tournament. Sims was the non-boat winner.

Bobby Reeves reeled in the big fish.

The club’s second tournament was held March 29 at Wateree Marina at Liberty Hill.

Ronnie Jenkins captured first place and Rick Porter finished second. Club veterans Ron Caskey and Porter were the team winners.

Boog Wilson was a double winner. Wilson, the big fish winner, also took the non-boat victory.

The club’s 22nd annual Bruin Bassin’ tournament is April 19 at Clearwater Cove on Lake Wateree. The entry fee is $120. First place is guaranteed to win $2,000.

Tournament proceeds go to the club’s annual Christmas toy drive for underpriviledged children.
