KERSHAW – An annual fundraiser to support educational and missionary causes deemed worthy by the state Missionary Baptist Church is tonight in Kershaw.

Local Missionary Baptist associations – Bethel Hill, Bright Light, Mount Moriah, Mount Peaceful and St. Paul – will come together to hold a worship service at 7 p.m. at First Kershaw Baptist, 401 N. Hampton St., Kershaw.

A free will offering will be collected, which will be used for the educational and missionary purposes of the Baptist Education and Missionary Commission of South Carolina, which owns Morris College.

"This is to support the EM (education and missionary) Commission," said the Rev. Waldo Robinson, minister of First Kershaw Baptist.

The commission has been in existence for more than 100 years.

Robinson said the service will include a message from the Rev. Otis Lathan, pastor of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, as well as gospel singing and a praise-team performance.

"Everyone is invited to come," he said.

Each year, the EM Commission donates to the United Negro College Fund, national African-American colleges and universities and the construction of schools and churches in Kenya, among other causes, such as supporting the local Red Cross and prison ministries.
