The team of Trevor Banks and Garrett Crenshaw teamed to win the gross division title in the 2011 Fuzzy and Friends Edgewater Golf Classic on Saturday afternoon.

Banks, a former Buford High School state champion golfer who now plays at the University of South Carolina Lancaster, teamed with Crenshaw, a member of the Buford High golf team, to card a 63.

“Those are two young kids who hit it well,” said Edgewater golf professional Phil Lobeck of the Banks-Crenshaw team. “Trevor has a lot of talent. I have seen him play before at Edgewater with the USCL team and I had a good idea of his ability. Crenshaw also had a good golf swing.”

Banks and Crenshaw competed, playing for the Lancaster County Partners for Youth Foundation. American Security Mortgage sponsored the two-man slot and then provided the slots to LCPFY which had Banks and Crenshaw as its players.

The 41-team field, which had a two-man captain’s choice tournament, also included a net division.

Chris Stater and Mark Wertz teamed for a 66 to win the net division.

Van Southard and Dennis Moser followed with a 67 and Skip Stutts and Tom Near were third with a 68.

“The tournament went great,” Lobeck said. “Our first Fuzzy and Friends event last fall was a spectator event, but this time we opened it up to draw more players.

“People want to play and we feel this format is one we will follow for the future.

“The greens were perfect and fast,” Lobeck said. “Everybody was happy.”

Sam LaVaughn of LaVaughn Catering in Charlotte provided two meals, breakfast and dinner, at the tournament.

Miss Lancaster, Noel Rizzuti, assisted with registration and greeted the players.

She also sang the national anthem prior to the start of the tournament.

“She sang it A cappe1la and it was very impressive,” Lobeck said. “Noel gave us a great start to this event.”

In addition to Zoeller, a former Masters and U.S. Open champion, celebrities in the field included former Carolina Panthers’ player Frank Garcia and Matt Moore, a quarterback with the Panthers.

Located in southern Lancaster County, Edgewater Golf Club is a Fuzzy Zoeller Signature Community with a championship caliber golf course designed by Bruce Brodsky.
