All babies are beautiful. We invite you to enter yours in our first annual Beautiful Baby Contest with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting the Newspaper In Education Program (NIE).
What is NIE? The Lancaster News NIE program provides 128 classrooms in Lancaster County with newspapers as a teaching aid. That amounts to more than 2,000 students reading and learning about local community events, local government and local issues that affect their lives.
NIE is a program that helps fight one of the fastest growing problems facing every community in the United States today – illiteracy. There are more than 23 million American adults who are functionally illiterate and more than 40 percent of fourth-graders who cannot read.
The NIE program reinforces school curriculum, challenges creative abilities, improves reading skills and motivates students while teaching them about their own community.
The Lancaster News is able to provide this program free of charge to our teachers with the help of business partners and readers like you.
Several fundraising events are held each year including our popular NIE Block Sale scheduled for Sept. 29.
Our first annual Beautiful Baby contest is open to babies 24 months and younger and will run from Sept. 29. to Nov 10.
Contestant entries and photos are $15 and forms can be found in The Lancaster News starting today. All contestants must be registered by noon on Sept. 24.
Winners for the baby contest will be determined by the number of votes received by each contestant. Votes are only 25 cents and can be placed at The Lancaster News office by mail, phone or in person. Voting ballets can be found in The Lancaster News when the contest begins.
The first round of contestants will be featured in the Sept. 29 newspaper. On Wednesdays during the next seven weeks, we will publish three rounds of contestants’ photos.
Contestants receiving the least amount of votes will be eliminated in each round.
First, second and third place winners will receive a prize and be featured in the Nov. 10 edition of The Lancaster News.
Do you have the most beautiful baby? We think so.
