The Lancaster County Sheriffs Office has now identified and is looking for the man who broke into a storage cage behind the Walmart in Indian Land on Aug. 15 and stole 150 used car batteries. The incident, which happened about 9:15 p.m. that day, was caught by the store’s surveillance system.
Jeffrey Bernard Knight is wanted for burglary, but his whereabouts are unknown. The release said McKnight may be trying to sell the batteries to local retailers.
According to a press release issued by the Lancaster County Sheriffs Office early Wednesday, McKnight may be driving a black 2012 Ford Escape with a Georgia license plate (BSN8612), or a white 1997 Chevrolet C-Series rollback truck with “Christ Towing” on the sides. The release said the rollback has an unknown North Carolina license plate.
The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information on McKnight’s whereabouts to call (803) 283-4136, or Crimestoppers at 1-888-274-6372. Anonymous tips also can be e-mailed or texted to www.midlandscrimestoppers.com
