KERSHAW – A Kershaw man has been charged in an assault that sent a man to a Columbia hospital over the weekend.

Cash Pierre Young, 19, 5206 Sandy Lane, was arrested Tuesday and charged with aggravated assault and battery, Sheriff Barry Faile said.

According to a Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office incident report, deputies responded to East Third Street about 12:15 a.m. Saturday and spoke with the 49-year-old victim. The report said the man was bleeding heavily from the head and mouth.

The man told deputies that he was walking from his friend’s house on East Fourth Street. He said he passed by a Springs Street home where four men were standing outside. The man, who appeared intoxicated, said he turned the corner and the group of men “jumped him.” The victim said he knew one of the men in the group.

Lancaster County Emergency Medical Services took the man to the Camden hospital, where he was airlifted to Palmetto Health Richland Hospital in Columbia.

The report said deputies found a pool of blood at the corner of Springs and East Third Street, with several teeth scattered in the area. The officers also found a knife with blood on it, the report said.

Sheriff’s office spokesman Tom Holland said two more arrests are expected in the case.

The victim was listed in fair condition on Thursday, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Young remained at the Lancaster County Detention Center Thursday on a $50,000 bond.
