Attention all musicians and music lovers in the Lancaster area.

On Sunday afternoon, the Lancaster Council of the Arts gallery will once again be filled with beautiful musical strains ranging from Villia-Lobos to Johann Sebastian Bach during the 4th annual Friends Concert Series.

The event is cosponsored and produced by Erin Moon-Kelly, EMK Music and the Lancaster County Council for the Arts.

Performers include Moon-Kelly (adjunct professor of music at the University of South Carolina at Lancaster), the Magnolia Woodwind Trio, The Charlotte Concert Band Flute Ensemble and Irish/Celtic music specialist and historian Cara Schumann.

The best part is that the concert is free.

Concert goers may make a donation to the LCCA for future community music programs.

Sam Courtney, LCCA executive director, said the organization is proud to provide a venue for this event.

Courtney said Moon-Kelly’s love of music is contagious.

“She is a very talented musician who loves to share her knowledge of music and music appreciation,” he said. “Her energetic performance is very entertaining.”

Moon-Kelly began this concert series after realizing Lancaster residents had to drive to reach artistic outlets. She said she felt they should have opportunities to enjoy the arts, particularly music.

“To attend a concert around here means a drive to Charlotte, ticket and parking costs, and most times, dinner,” Moon-Kelly said. “Offering this event at no charge allows anyone to be able to enjoy the music and not worry about the cost.”

Moon-Kelly said Lancaster has its share of accomplished musicians who need an outlet to display their talents.

She believes the friends concert series will encourage others to get involved in the community. Moon-Kelly also hopes it spurs a music class again or revives their appreciation of music.

“Each year, we feature a variety of music,” she said. “Concert goers are sure to have their toes tapping to the beat of Irish folk music. The afternoon will also include some classical favorites and exciting contemporary composers.”                                                                                                                                                                           Want to go?                                                                                                                                                                      WHAT: 4th Annual Friends Concert
