A local man who recently died has been hailed an American hero.
Lancaster resident Carl Gandy died Jan. 25 at the age of 88. During his life he was a business owner, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Gandy served in the Army during World War II. As a member of the 4th Infantry Division, he and his comrades pushed their way across the French countryside, along with other Allied forces on their way to Berlin.
