Big-play performers highlight The Lancaster News’ 2012 all-county offense.
The TLN offense is paced by Lancaster County Player of the Year Josh Mullens of Buford High School.
The Jackets’ senior running back is joined by Lancaster High school senior quarterback Kaderrious Jackson.
Mullens ran for 1,154 yards in 201 carries, a 5.7 average, with 17 touchdowns. Mullens’ highlight was 259 yards rushing and four touchdowns in Buford’s 43-39 Region IV-AA win over playoff-bound Chesterfield.
Jackson, an all-region pick and the Bruins Offensive MVP, accounted for 2,146 yards – 90-191 yards passing for 1,195 yards and 11 touchdowns. He ran for 951 yards in 139 carries and tallied 13 touchdowns.
The all-county receivers also had the penchant for the big play.
Andrew Jackson High School junior wide receiver Quadarius Fair had 67 catches for 989 yards and 22 touchdowns.
Indian Land High senior receiver Chris Barnes was also stellar with 31 receptions for 401 yards and four touchdowns.
Mullens and Jackson are joined in the backfield by Buford’s Mikeem McKinney and AJ’s Gavin Clyburn.
McKinney, an all-region pick and Buford’s Best Back Award recipient, compiled 943 yards, 438 yards rushing with five TDs and 31 catches for 505 yards and four scores.
The Vols’ Clyburn had 721 yards – 39 rushes for 393 yards and five touchdowns to go with 23 catches for 328 yards and a touchdown.
The offensive line features two LHS Bruins and a pair of BHS Jackets.
Lancaster senior center Josh Cato, the Scotty Munn Memorial Coaches Award winner, along with senior Jadarius Hammond, the LHS Best Offensive Lineman Award winner with a 78 percent grade and five knockdown blocks, head the offensive trenches. Cato, a three-year starter, graded 75 percent for the season.
Buford all-region performers Garrett Thomas and Andrew Plyler solidify the offensive line. Thomas garnered the Buford Best Offensive Lineman Award with an 80 percent grade this season.
Indian Land’s Jimmy Locklear rounds out the line as an all-region pick and the Warriors’ captain. Locklear graded 87 percent and had 11 knockdown blocks this season.
Buford High School senior kicker Donovan Lang, an all-region pick who missed only two extra points during the season, is the all-county kicker.
The all-county offensive team was selected from nominations from the four county high school football coaches.
