Trio opens with shutouts

Andrew Jackson rolled to an impressive 8-0 win over Loris in the opening round of the Class AA Lower State soccer playoffs on Tuesday. The 18-1 Vols' lopsided win sends AJ to a second-round home match against Barnwell on Thursday. Barnwell downed Buford in an opening round playoff match. Jason Faile led the Vols with three goals and Oliver Wall netted two goals. Cory Gardner, O'marr Truesdale and William Bridges each added one goal. Gardner had an assist as did Tyler Stroud. Kevin Hunter had three assists. Jonathan Haile and Nick Stover combined on the shutout of the visiting Lions. AJ girls win The AJ Lady Vols, in their first-ever home playoff soccer match, made the most of the chance in taking a 3-0 win over Andrews High School on Monday. The shutout win was also the Lady Vols' second postseason victory in their eight-year history. Jamie Leigh Johnson scored two goals and Ashley Beavers added a goal to pace the AJ win. Rebecca Johnson had an assist in the win. Sydney Hinson and Shelby Mosher combined on the Lady Vols' shutout. AJ is back in action today when the Lady Vols visit Waccamaw at 6 p.m. IL girls win The Indian Land Lady Warriors defeated Greenville Charter High School 3-0 on Monday night in the Class A Upper State soccer playoffs. The Lady Warriors had several girls on the offensive attack. Madeline Warring, Elizabeth Wheeler, and Sarah Adams each tallied for the winners. Warring and Daysi Perez each added an assist. Indian Land had a solid defensive outing from Brittani Kronquist, who recorded her sixth shutout for the season in net. Brooke Adams, Karaline Berei, and Amber Smith held up the IL defensive front. The Lady Warriors advance to the second round of the Class A-AA Upper Sate playoffs as they travel to Christ Church today.
