Dixie Baseball All-Stars Roundup

The Lancaster Dixie Baseball AAA all-stars capped an unbeaten run to capture the Dixie Youth Baseball District 2 tournament at the Timken Sports Complex in Union on Wednesday, July 2.

The Lancaster AAA all-stars, who went 5-0 in the field and outscored their foes, 56-4, wrapped up the crown with a 14-3 win over Clover, which fell twice to Lancaster.

AAA pitcher Demajion Howard, who worked three innings, struck out eight Clover batters in notching the win. Ronald Robinson hurled the final two frames, whiffing two batters.

Ashton Hudson drilled a three-run triple to boost the Lancaster offense.

Howard aided his cause with a hit, while Jalen McGriff, Tyler Vespe, Blaze Catoe and Carter Nunnery each had a hit for the Lancaster AAA all-stars.

“Our pitching was outstanding during the tournament,” Lancaster Dixie Baseball AAA all-star manager Joe McGriff said. “We had a great team effort and we did a good job on the bases.

“I felt our speed was a big factor on the base paths in our success in Union,” said McGriff, who was assisted by Mike Couch and Demarcus Howard.

The Lancaster Dixie Baseball AAA stars opened play with an 11-1 win over York and followed with an 8-0 victory over Clover.

The Lancaster AAA stars, who notched three straight shutouts in their title run, then blanked Gaffney, 13-0 and followed with a 10-0 victory over York.

Lancaster then clinched the district crown with its 14-3 win over Clover in five innings.

The AAA stars, with the district crown, advance to the state tournament in Florence where it will be played July 17-24.

The state champion advances to the AAA World Series in Lexington, S.C., where the tournament will be held Aug. 9-14.

  u  The state champion Lancaster NL stars play in the AA machine pitch World Series in Texarkana, Ark., where the opening ceremonies begin July 17. Lancaster opens Pool B play as it faces the host team, Texarkana, Ark., at 3 p.m. July 18. Lancaster then faces the Alabama state champion at 6 p.m.

Lancaster NL returns to play on Saturday, July 19 at noon when it meets the Tennessee state champion.

Lancaster plays the Mississippi state champion at 4:30 p.m. and caps pool play at 7:30 p.m. when it meets the Florida state champion.

The top two finishers in pool play then advance to a four-team tournament July 21-22.

The AA stars, in a team fundraiser, will host a men’s league softball tournament July 12 at the South Softball Complex. The entry fee is $200 per team. For more details, call Wright at (803) 342-0743.

u The Lancaster Dixie Baseball A League all-stars notched the District 2 championship in Union where the LDB stars took the best-of-5 series, 3-1.

The Lancaster A stars capped the series with a 25-13 win over the host team.

Lancaster forged a 25-0 lead before posting the 12-run victory in the title game.

u The Lancaster Dixie Baseball Ozone all-stars captured the district crown and a bid to the state tournament with a 14-6 win over York at the Gaffney Youth Sports Complex in Gaffney on Thursday, June 26.

The Dixie Youth Baseball Ozone state tournament is slated for July 12-17 at Byerley Park in Hartsville.

The Lancaster Ozone all-stars are slated to face the District V champion from the Pee Dee area on opening day at 8 p.m.
