The Lancaster Dixie Baseball AA all-stars capped an unbeaten District Two tournament run with a 21-2 win over tournament host Union on Tuesday, June 25.

The Lancaster stars of head coach Jimmy Jackson banged out 31 hits in the 19-run win in five innings.

“We hit the ball well, but that was the key for the whole tournament,” said Jackson of his team which cranked out 67 hits in three tournament wins. “Anytime you can go to Union and win a championship in decisive fashion, you know your team is on top of its game.

“I was impressed with our guys because we had an hour rain delay on Tuesday night, but came right out and continued to play well,” he said.

The Lancaster win was a team effort with every player having at least one hit. The tournament included ages 7-8 in the machine pitch baseball format.

Jalen McGriff and Carter Nunnery each had four hits and two RBIs to pace the Lancaster AA stars’ attack. Eli Sistare drilled four hits and drove in a run.

Adam Wright delivered three hits, including an inside-the-park grand slam, and five RBIs.

Brady Jackson laced three hits and drove home two runs, while La’Trell Craig chipped in three hits and had a RBI.

Hunter Gainey and Hunter Sims each generated two hits and three RBIs. Landon Peavy posted two hits and drove in a run. Andrew Taylor tallied a pair of hits. Joey Sanders and Joaquin Espinoza each had a hit in the victory.

“We took care of business at the plate,” Jackson said. “It was an impressive effort.”

The Lancaster AA stars opened play with a 15-1 win over Union and then rallied for a 13-6 victory over Lewisville to earn the title game berth in the double-elimination tournament.

The Lancaster stars outscored their foes 49-9 in three games to earn the title and a bid to the state tournament in Georgetown on July 6 when it faces District 11 champion Aynor.

Jackson noted the team made eight errors in three games.

“We’re playing well and we want to keep that going,” he said. “We have momentum to build on going into the state tournament at Georgetown.”

The Georgetown field features a 12-team double elimination tournament.
