AA Machine Pitch team to play in regional

The Lancaster Dixie Youth AA Machine Pitch team all-stars were eliminated from the state championship on Tuesday, July 9, in Georgetown after losing two games.
Game 1
Play opened in the championship on Saturday, July 6.
Lancaster lost to Aynor 7-6. Aynor scored seven times in the bottom of the fifth inning to clutch the win.
Leading hitters were Adam Wright, Carter Nunnery and Landon Peavy.
Game 2 and 3
The team won two games on Sunday, July 7, beating Hilton Head, 18-12, and Midland Valley, 16-3.
Lancaster trailed Hilton Head 10-4 after three innings and scored 14 in the last three at bats, including a seven-run bottom of the fifth inning with the score tied at 11.
L’Trel Craig led with two doubles and five RBIs. Hunter Gainey had a double and two RBIs. Joaquin Espinoza, Eli Sistare and Nunnery each had two RBIs.
In the next game, Lancaster all-stars beat Midland Valley in five innings. They jumped out to a 10-0 lead after two innings, and added one in the third, and five in the top of the fifth inning.
Jalen McGriff made a highlight catch running down a line shot in the center field gap. There was also outstanding defense by Jackson, Wright, Andrew Taylor and Sanders.
Brady Jackson and Craig were the most successful leading hitters, each with a double and two RBIs.
Hunter Sims and Gainey had two RBIs each. Joey Sanders, Wright, Peavy and Nunnery all had one RBI.
Game 4 and 5
On Monday, July 8, the team beat both Darlington and Central/Clemson.
Leading 8-5 after two innings, Lancaster outscored Darlington 10-0 over the final two innings in route to a 18-5 victory.
Espinoza was awarded the game ball by the home plate umpire for his outstanding play as catcher.
Peavy led with a double and three RBIs. McGriff had a double and two RBIs and Taylor followed with a double and one RBI.
Nunnery had three RBIs, and both Jackson and Gainey had two RBIs. Craig had one RBI.
In Game 5, Lancaster faced Central/Clemson – the lone undefeated team in the tournament. Lancaster jumped out to a 7-0 lead after two innings and led 10-3 heading into the sixth inning, holding on for a 10-5 victory.
McGriff impressed with a double and three RBIs, and Taylor was close behind with a double and two RBIs.
Nunnery and Peavy both brought in three RBIs, and Wright had 2 RBIs.
Brady Jackson earned a double.
Game 6
Lancaster lost 5-1 in their final championship game against Delmae on Tuesday, July 9.
Delmae played tough defense and broke open a 1-1 score in the fifth inning with four runs and held on for the win.
Impressive defense was made play after play by Jackson and Wright, while Nunnery made a diving backhanded stop turning a double play.
With this loss, Lancaster was eliminated from the state championship. As runners-up, Lancaster qualifies for the Dixie Youth Machine Pitch Regional tournament in Walterboro, beginning July 27. Teams from South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Alabama will compete for regional champion.
“The heart and desire these young guys showed during this tournament was amazing,” said coach Jimmy Jackson. “To lose the first game of the tournament and come back and finish runners-up is quite an accomplishment.
“These guys represented Lancaster in a way we can all be proud of.”
