LDB team’s 3-0 run nets state berth

The Lancaster Dixie Boys 13 all-stars are headed to the state tournament in Aiken after winning the District 10 championship in York.

The Lancaster 13s captured the district crown and state bid with an 8-3 win over the Rock Hill all-stars on Tuesday, July 2.

Luis Gomez, who worked five innings in relief, was the winner with eight strikeouts.

Ryan Bailey worked two frames and posted three strikeouts.

Noah Vincent paced the Lancaster Dixie Boys 13 stars with three hits, a double and two singles.

Bailey backed the Lancaster cause with two hits, a single and a triple, three runs batted in and a walk.

Devon Busby generated two hits. Gomez and Matthew McCants each drilled a hit and drove in a run.

Lancaster coach Steve Sellers said Anson Taylor led the defense with a strong game at second base.

“Our kids played hard,” Sellers said. “A key for us was solid defense behind our pitchers in all of our tournament games. We’re real proud of these players and appreciate the support from the fans and families.”

Lancaster, in three games, outscored three York County foes, 37-10.

Lancaster opened play with a 14-4 win over Rock Hill and then downed York, 15-3 before wrapping up the title with the 8-3 win over Rock Hill.

Lancaster opens play in the state tournament on July 20 in Aiken where it will face the District 11 champion out of the Pickens area.

Ozone AL stars win

The Lancaster Dixie Baseball American League Ozone all-stars remained unbeaten in the district tournament with two wins.

On Tuesday, July 2, Lancaster defeated York 11-1 in four innings.

Jamie Hinson threw a complete game in four innings. Hinson also slammed a solo home run. Brett Sistare smashed a two-run home run.

On Monday, July 1, Lancaster drilled Clover 17-3.

Toot Curry was the winner in three innings of mound work. Dylan Montgomery worked an inning in the win.

Corey Mora-Wallace belted a three-run home run for the Ozone AL.

Colby Jackson and Ben Hinson each had a solo home run.

The Lancaster Ozone American League stars opened district tournament play with two wins, a 12-0 victory over Union and a 13-1 win over Lancaster National.

Lancaster Ozone National all-stars were eliminated in an 8-5 loss to Lewisville.

AA stars in state play

The Lancaster Dixie Baseball AA all-stars, ages 7-8, open play in the state tournament in Georgetown on Saturday, July 6 when they face District 11 champion Aynor.

The Lancaster AA stars of head coach Jimmy Jackson captured the District Two championship in Union last week.

The offensive-minded Lancaster AA all-stars outscored their foes 49-9 in three district games and drilled 67 hits to earn the title and a bid to the state tournament.

The Lancaster Dixie Baseball AAA all-stars open play in the district tournament at Rodman Park in Chester County this weekend.

The Lancaster AAA American League all-stars play Lewisville at 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 6.

 Lancaster National, which received a first-round bye, opens play Sunday, July 7 at 4 p.m. when they play Union National or Clover.
