Bryce Blanton, a member of Boy Scout Troop No. 72, recently completed his Eagle project. Blanton’s project was to renovate the outdoor fish pond at North Elementary School and build a pergola to shade the pond. He also performed landscaping and general repairs to improve the school’s natural classroom area. Overall, 20 volunteers spent more than 120 hours to complete this project. As a scout, Branton has held leadership positions of scribe, quartermaster and librarian, and has earned 29 merit badges.

A living piece of Lancaster County Boy Scout history returned to his roots Friday, July 13. Lancaster native William W. Funderburk, the first African-American to become an Eagle Scout here, talked about his history with the Scouts that day at Lindsay Pettus’ office in downtown Lancaster.

Stuart Barfield, 18, was awarded his Eagle Scout badge during a court of honor Sunday at First Baptist Church in Kershaw. A member of Boy Scout Troop No. 74, he is the son of Sandy and Doug Barfield. Eagle Scouts must earn 21 merit badges; Stuart has earned 58. He had to also complete a community service project of lasting value as an Eagle badge requirement. Stuart built a walking trail, constructed a bridge over a small creek, created a picnic area and built a picnic table at Stevens Park in Kershaw. A senior at Andrew Jackson High School, Stuart will attend The Citadel.
