Age division titles and all-star berths will be decided at the annual Roy Small Junior Championship golf tournament Monday and Tuesday at White Plains Golf Club in Pageland.
Winners will earn double points and the chance to represent the Lancaster chapter of the S.C. Junior Golf Association all-stars in the state tournament next month.
The Lancaster chapter capped its regular-season Monday, July 16 when it played at the Kershaw Golf Club.

Greenwood built an early lead and held on for a 6-3 win over Lancaster to take a 2-1 series edge in the best-of-five American Legion baseball Upper State second-round playoffs Friday night.
Post 20, which had a 10-game win streak snapped in a 10-7 game two loss to Lancaster on Thursday night, rebounded for the three-run win.
Game four was played in Lancaster on Saturday night when the game was completed after The News’ deadline for the Sunday paper.

Lancaster High School star softball pitcher Erin Walker is taking her game to the next level.
Walker, who produced a stellar senior campaign to cap a banner LHS softball career, will play at Columbia College in Columbia.
“I’m really excited about going to Columbia College,” said Walker, who played six seasons for LHS. “When I visited there, I really enjoyed it.

The most recent round of white-tailed deer antler measuring conducted by the S.C. Department of Natural Resources revealed 257 new records, including two Boone and Crockett qualifiers,
Each spring S.C. Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Wildlife Section personnel make a concerted effort to measure deer racks throughout the state, with a major session during the Palmetto Sportsmen’s Classic in Columbia.
Of the 601 sets of antlers measured this spring, 257 met the minimum score for entry on the state records list including 246 sets of typical and 11 non-typical racks.

PIEDMONT – When Lancaster High senior guard Alan Robinson stepped to the foul line, he said he knew he had to seize the moment.
Robinson noted he flashbacked to the Bruins’ home loss to region rival Gaffney last month when he missed a pair of key late free throws in the region overtime loss to the Indians.
“I didn’t want that to happen again,” Robinson said.
It didn’t.

No strike here as preparations for the 2011 Lancaster County high school football season begins.
Buford and Lancaster had the early jump with opening practices Friday.
The Bruins, under coach Bennie McMurray, hit the field for a morning workout at 8. The LHS team also practiced at 6 p.m. Friday.
The Bruins held an 8 a.m. practice Saturday.
Lancaster will return to practice Monday at 8 a.m. and depart for preseason camp Monday afternoon.

The Lancaster chapter of the S.C. Junior Golf Association wrapped up its season this week with the playing of the two-day Roy Small Tournament at the Lancaster Golf Club.
“We were extremely fortunate to be able to complete two days of golf with the weather being what it was,” said Raymon Chisom, Lancaster chapter director. “The heat brought in a large storm that dumped a lot of rain on the course Monday night, but Phil Small and Ross Baker, along with their staff had the course in excellent condition Tuesday morning.

The Lancaster Dixie Baseball Ozone all-stars had a tough finish in the state tournament at Sumter’s Patriots Park on Thursday night.
Sumter National, the same team which defeated Lancaster in its state tournament opener, scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to post a 3-2 win.
Sumter NL’s Ryan Touchberry, on a 2-1 pitch and a runner at third base, belted a two-run homer to lift the home team to the one-run win.
