Dominant pitching, defense earn Jackets 1st AA crown

Buford wins softball title

The Lady Jackets are South Carolina’s queen bees of Class AA softball.
Buford High School, in a winner-take-all game, brought home the state softball championship Friday night with a 2-1 win over Dillon at South Florence High School.
It was Buford’s first Class AA softball crown. The school won a state softball championship once before, in 2009, when Buford was in Class A.

FLORENCE–The Buford High School Lady Yellow Jackets defeated the Dillon High School Lady Wildcats 2-1 to win the Class AA state softball championship at South Florence High School on Friday night. Check back later for details.

Lady Jackets fall to Dillon, play third match on Friday

Dillion rallied with two runs in the ninth inning to down Buford 5-3 on Wednesday at BHS to force a decisive game three for the Class AA state softball championship Friday.

Dillon's Skyler McCoy slammed a two-run homer in theninth to lift Dillon to the win.

Buford rallied in the ninth, but the Lady Wildcats turned a game-ending double play to seal the win and even the best-of-three title series.

Buford opened the series with a 3-0 win on Monday at Dillon.

IL finishes No. 2 for 5th straight year

‘We played our hearts out’

IRMO – As the state runner-up Indian Land Warriors received their silver medals at Irmo High’s W.C. Hawkins Stadium on Friday night, proud IL soccer supporters found the silver lining for the royal blue and Vegas gold faithful.
Indian Land, for the fifth straight season, finished as the state runner-up in the Class AA state title soccer match, falling to Lower State champion Bishop England 4-1.
Senior captain Garrett Gerdes had mixed emotions over the loss.

Lady Jackets need one more win to be No. 1

Buford needs one to be No. 1 on the Class AA softball diamond.
The BHS Lady Jackets are a game away from a state softball crown after taking a 3-0 win over host Dillon in the Class AA state title series opener Monday ngiht.
Buford scored three runs in the top of the sixth on two hits.
BHS hurler Sydney Sullivan, who struck out nine and allowed one hit, held the Lady Wildcats the rest of the way to seal the win, Buford's seventh straight postseason shutout.

IL Warriors fall to Bishop England in state soccer championship match

Bishop England snapped a scoreless halftime with two goals in the second half to spark the Lower State champion Bishops to a 4-1 win over five-time Upstate champion Indian Land in the Class AA state title soccer match last night at W.C. Hawkins Stadium at Irmo High School.

Bishop England forged a 3-0 lead before the Warriors scored on a Garrett Gerdes penalty kick.

Vols blank Jackets booters

KERSHAW – Host Andrew Jackson won a defensive struggle to down county rival Buford, 2-0 on Thursday night at Volunteer Stadium.

The match was the regular-season soccer finale for both county teams. BHS edged AJ, 3-2 in the first match this season. BHS came to AJ on a four-match winning streak, with second place in the region sowed up.

The Jackets opened the week with a 5-0 win over Chester and then blanked Lewisville, 7-0.
