Warriors soccer

IL banking on soccer veterans

By Robert Howey

The Indian Land Warriors have finished as the Class AA boys state runner-up four straight seasons and they’re hoping the fifth time is the charm.
IL, in its final season of Class AA play, sports a strong cast of players for the 2016 high school soccer season.
Senior midfielder Garrett Gerdes, the Warriors’ 2015 MVP and Region IV-AA Player of the year, heads the returnees.
He has plenty of support in senior midfielder Matthew Medlock, the Warriors’ Defensive MVP who posted two goals and five assists last season for the 16-5 IL boys,

BHS senior makes history in SC prep track

Jackets’ Elliott wheeling to history

By Robert Howey

Buford High School senior track team member John Elliott takes a backseat to none.
In fact as far as S.C. high school track goes, Elliott is first and that will never change.
Elliott, born with spina bifida, is a handicapped athlete, but he has found a way to compete this season.
He is the first Palmetto State high school athlete to compete in the wheel chair 100-meter dash.
To date, he has competed in five meets, including his debut at Lancaster High School on March 10 where he posted a 50.68 time.
