Warriors rally late to edge Jackets

By Eric Rowell

The first football game of the year for Buford and Indian Land may very well be the game of the year.
Both teams battling toe to toe all the way to the wire. In dramatic fashion, Indian Land’s Matthew Medlock hit a 22-yard field goal to end the game and give the visiting Warriors a 39-38 win on Friday, Aug. 28 at BHS’s Jackets Stadium.
It was almost déjà vu for the Jackets. In the team’s second meeting last season, Buford’s Wade Lambert kicked the game-winning 32-yard field goal that gave Buford a 23-21 home win.

Jackets line veteran set to be ‘that guy’

BHS’s Carnes ready for role

By Robert Howey

Buford High School senior center Brandon Carnes said he wants to be “that guy” this season.
“That guy” is the Jackets’ offensive line leader, following in the solid footsteps of past BHS ace linemen like Griggs Griffin, Kyle Norcia and Autry Blackmon.
Now, as Carnes sees it, his time is here.
“I’ve been on the line since the 10th grade and I have to be that person this season,” said Carnes, a three-year starter for the Jackets. “I have to keep their heads high and be a leader and role model.”

Funds benefit the Seth Muennich Foundation, Seth’s Giving Tree.
The jamboree’s name comes from the physical embraces, which Seth Muennich was known for during his lifetime.
