Picks spoils due me at Taxahaw Inn

By Robert Howey

The Taxahaw Inn is where I’m bound.
Anyone who follows The Lancaster News Pigskin Picks knows those are the coveted spoils for the winning picker in the Picks.
This year, I took the title after Ernie “Big E” Rowell registered back-to-back Picks crowns.
Now, the winner’s suite is going to take on a new look at least for a year.
The first order of business is a complete paint job of Citadel blue. That’s like sky blue, and that’s most fitting because The Citadel, at 9-3, is soaring these days.

Watson the difference in Tigers’ triumph

By Robert Howey

No. 1 and unbeaten Clemson’s margin of victory over South Carolina in the annual Palmetto Bowl was a surprising five points.
The difference, by no stunning notion, was Tigers’ ace sophomore quarterback Dashaun Watson.
Watson, regarded two seasons back as the top prep quarterback in the land by ESPN, has certainly responded to those lofty expectations in Tigertown.

Teams advance to Bluffton Dec. 5-6

Soccer stars sweep to district crowns

By The Staff

The Lancaster County Parks and Recreation youth soccer program will be represented well at the state tournament in Bluffton this fall, with all three age groups winning the district title and earning a state bid.
The district tourney was held at the Buford High School football stadium Nov. 21.
The LCPRC 10U all-stars opened the day  with a 1-0 victory over Kershaw County-Camden.
The match was a back-and-forth contest, with both teams having opportunities to score, but tough defense on both sides kept the game scoreless for most of the first half.

Bulldogs’ big day a capital gain

By Robert Howey

The Citadel’s stellar football season is still going and no matter where it
finishes, it’s going to be chronicled as a Bulldogs’ banner campaign.
Co-champs of the Southern Conference is nice, but a cherished capital moment in Columbia on Saturday afternoon made it that much better for those of the “long gray line.”
The 24th-ranked Bulldogs, 8-3, are headed to play Coastal in the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs on Nov. 28.
