Classes at Gregory Health and Wellness Center pool

USCL sets youth swimming lessons

Youth swimming lessons at the Gregory Health and Wellness Center pool at USC Lancaster will be held Oct. 16-Nov.9.

Classes meet Monday and Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 6:30, and 6:30 p.m. to 7.

The Tuesday-Thursday classes are 6 p.m. to 6:30 and 6:30 p.m. to 7.

Classes offered are aqua-tot, level 1, level 2 and level 3.

Classes meet twice a week for four weeks.

Dominating Darlings!

The Lancaster County Darlings all-stars are dominating on the diamond this week.
The team continued their stellar play Monday night with a 10-6 win over Jena, La., in the Dixie Softball World Series at Sumter’s Patriot Park. The win left Lancaster’s 8U all-stars as the only unbeaten team in the double-elimination, 11-team field.
Today could be World Series Championship day for Lancaster, as the tournament’s teams play their last games.

Darlings stars unbeaten to open Series play

The Lancaster County Darlings stars, age 8U, are off to a dandy start in the Dixie Softball World Series at Patriot Park in Sumter.
The Lancaster County Darlings stars, the 2017 S.C. state champion, opened the double-elimination tournament with three straight wins, including a 13-11 victory over Montgomery, Ala., on Sunday night.
The Darlings, 14-0 in postseason play, bolted to a 9-3 lead on the Alabama state champion, but the Bama team rallied to take a 10-9 edge.
Lancaster County rebounded to with four runs in the fourth inning to take a 13-10 lead.

Darlings win Series opener

The Lancaster County Dixie Softball Darlings all-stars launched play in the World Series, rolling to an 11-0 win over Texas in the team's opener on Saturday.

The Lancaster County Darlings stars, who are unbeaten in postseason play at 12-0, face the Georgia state champion today in Sumter.

The Lancaster County Darlings stars of coach Gene Knight earned a World Series bid, winning the state championship in Dillon earlier this month.

Junior standout also takes White Plains

David Oliver III continued his stellar play to highlight the Lancaster Junior Golf Association in its tournament at the White Plains Country Club in Pageland on Monday.
Oliver, coming off a win in an elite junior tournament in Cleveland, Tenn., won the chapter’s 10-12 age division with a two-under 34 over nine holes. Oliver’s effort included three birdies and five pars.

Oliver stellar at The Blade

David Oliver III is quickly making a name for himself in South Carolina junior golf.
Oliver, a rising sixth grader at New Heights Middle School in Pageland, has produced another stellar season with the Lancaster chapter of the S.C. Junior Golf Association, but he stepped up his game on the links Tuesday afternoon.
Oliver, playing in the prestigious 19th annual Blade Junior Classic in Greer, captured the boys 10-12 age division crown in dramatic fashion.

A league stars capture district crown

The Lancaster Dixie Baseball A-League (6U) Machine Pitch All-Stars recently won the District 2 tournament in dominating fashion at Rodman Park in Chester.
The A-League teams use a motorized wheel pitching machine that pitches the ball at 35 miles per hour.
The Lancaster stars outscored their opponents in three games by a score of 57-2.  In game one, the Lancaster team was matched up against the Jefferson stars. The Lancaster All Stars scored early and often on their way to a convincing 15-0 win.

Junior golfers blaze in return to links

CHESTER – The Lancaster chapter of the S.C. Junior Golf Association matched the weather with a blazing return to the links at the Chester Golf Club on July 10.
The juniors, despite some sweltering playing conditions, posted some stellar scores in their first tournament coming off the chapter’s annual two-week break.
Buford High School star golfer Caleb Henson captured the win in the boys 15-18 age group, shooting an even 72 (35-37) to take a two-shot win over Nick Mangano, who finished with a 74, 37-37, over 18 holes.

Tournament at Dillon

Dixie Softball stars launch state play

Lancaster County Parks and Recreation Dixie Softball teams open play in the state tournament in Dillon on Saturday.
The LCPR Dixie Softball teams – Angels, Darlings and Ponytails – earned bids to the state tournament after capturing District II championships at the Larry Doby Recreation Complex in Camden last month.
The Lancaster County Darlings (8U) all-star team opens play in Dillon where it faces Bluffton at 11:15 a.m.
The Darlings stars, who went 6-0 in capturing the district crown, are looking to stay unbeaten in postseason play.
