In the future, a life will be saved, because of the new emergency helicopter landing pad in Kershaw.
It might be a car wreck victim, a person suffering from a stroke, heart attack or a youngster bitten by a poisonous snake.
No matter, quick and efficient help and the helicopter pad, which will allow the patient to be flown to receive critical medical assistance, is going to be vital.
Direct thanks can be attributed to Talf Wrenn.

A trio of outstanding people have left us in recent weeks, but their mark will be on Lancaster County for years to come.
Lib Wilson, Walter Craig Sr. and Jimmy Moreland Sr. died, but their legacy of community involvement will live on.
Lib Wilson
Any time a Lancaster woman meets with success, she can be grateful that Lib Wilson blazed the way.

In the last few issues, we reported stories where local residents’ vocal opposition to plans resulted in the scrapping of those plans – first with the proposed moving of the Indian Land recycling/convenience center from Jim Wilson Road to Shelley Mullis Road and then with a requested rezoning of two acres at Collins and Henry Harris roads.
The public outcry over moving the recycling/convenience center got an added boost from the fact that Lancaster County planned to move the site next to the Deputy Roy Hardin Park, where the county owns additional land.

Face it, folks. Some people don’t need to carry guns – openly or concealed.
Recent tragedies, where innocent people sitting in classrooms, a shopping mall and movie theater were slaughtered by crazed, gun-toting fanatics, are a testament to that fact.
We don’t think anyone with common sense will deny that those perpetrators should not be allowed to own or carry a gun for obvious reasons.

Buford High School senior wrestler Dylan Altman has a coveted gold medal to show for his persistence.
Altman, the Jackets’ 132-pounder, captured an individual state championship as he won the gold medal on Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Anderson Civic Center.
A year prior, Altman fell short in a bid to capture the 120-pound Class AAA state title to end his junior campaign.
Altman used his miss at the shot of “grabbing the brass ring” to power his run to the state championship this year.

Pretend a hundred of us just landed on an island – our new home. The island possesses all the amenities – fertile land, plenty of timber, fresh water, lots of wildlife – to sustain us and a growing population. Pretty soon, we start to develop our island. We’re building houses, cutting roadways and implementing an infrastructure.

Wow, those snowy doughnuts must have been real good. Really, was it that good as you sank in on the treat?
We’re not talking a tasty treat here, but rather a dastardly deed.
No good came out of a coward’s “joy ride” at the Buford Recreation Department’s youth soccer fields Feb. 16.
How could anyone have a good time as they drove an ATV and cut deep-rutted doughnuts into the youth soccer fields?
What was this person thinking? Obviously, he or she was not thinking straight.

Perfection is a major challenge to attain, but a pair of A.R. Rucker Middle School teams did so during the 2012-13 basketball season.
The Rucker girls and boys teams each posted an unbeaten record during the recently completed middle school basketball campaign.
Each team went 12-0 for the season, a first in school history.
Rams athletic director Brett Blackmon noted three key reasons in the teams’ success.
“One, we had a great group of kids,” Blackmon said. “Number two, we had two great coaches.
