Guest columnist Bob Lanning is pastor of Cornerstone Bible Church

Lanning column: King’s dream a ‘big picture’ of end times?

Daniel 2 describes a dream of Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, who later conquered Jerusalem in 586 B.C. Trou-
bled by his dream, he demanded that his wise men tell him both the dream and its interpretation, or else be dismembered and disgraced.
As one of several young Hebrews taken captive and trained by Nebuchadnezzar, Daniel faced certain death if he failed to obey the king’s command. Requesting more time, he and his three friends met together to beseech God for wisdom.

Guest columnist Charles M. Ussery is a Kershaw resident

Ussery column: How I ‘hypnotized’ 52 chickens in June of 1960

A  family member requested I write about the time I “hypnotized” 52 chickens for a $25 bet with five of my friends. Even though these were close friends, they did not know that I had a master’s degree in the social life of chickens.

Guest columnist Rudy Schmidt is a Lancaster resident.

Schmidt column: Continued lies will be cause of our downfall

Lies surround us by politicians, media big shots and by our ruling class in general.

“God is not a man, that he should lie” (Numbers 23:19). It looks like men are not God that they should or could tell the truth.

A short list of some examples:

Phil Noble is president of the S.C. New Democrats

Noble column: Let’s do something great with state’s $21.5 million

We’ve all seen the advertisements for the TV lawyers promising big bucks if we sign up with them on some big class-action suit for mesothelioma or asbestos or some other product or medical liability case.

Time to love country more than Obama

I would like to respond to Michael Jedson’s letter, “Facts, without the whining and ranting,” in the Feb. 1 edition of The Lancaster News.

Why do Democrats and supporters keep repeating talking points and calling them facts when anyone who can add two plus two or use the Internet can debunk these myths?

I apologize in advance if this sounds like an insult, it is not my intention to disparage you personally, but your so-called facts would be almost laughable if they were not so tragic for so many in this country.

What is J.R. Wilt’s solution to criminal justice problem?

I must be suffering from some new eyesight malady. Despite peering at it quite carefully, squinting mightily and blinking several times, I could not find in the Feb. 11 column of J.R. Wilt any proposed solution.

I know it must be there, because certainly Mr. Wilt did not write in simply to complain.

SC State: Fix it, don’t kill it

Let’s begin with the obvious: South Carolina State is a mess. No, it’s way beyond a mess; it is on life support and its very existence is in grave danger.

But it can be fixed and, in fact, the solution is fairly straightforward. It’s not rocket science; if GM can go from the brink of extinction to making a profit in less than 24 months, then SC State’s problems can be solved.

The ‘I am’ statements of Christ

As recorded in John’s Gospel, Jesus made seven amazing statements about himself that no one else has ever made.

Shortly after he fed the multitudes by multiplying five loaves and two small fishes, a crowd seeking another miracle brought up the manna that God provided for the children of Israel during their long march through the wilderness.

To them, Jesus’ spectacular one-day miracle faded in comparison to God’s 40-year-long provision of bread from heaven.
