Clemson study to look at ‘mega’ sports complex

Does the future of recreation in Lancaster County include a much-discussed major sports complex?
Hal Hiott hopes so.
As Lancaster County Parks and Recreation director, Hiott is spreading the word about a study set for next month to examine the benefits of building such a complex in the county. Spearheaded by members of Clemson University’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management, the study process will include in-depth conversations with residents about their recreational needs and wants.

Kershaw to dedicate veterans memorial

KERSHAW – Thanksgiving is about being grateful, and Kershaw is getting ready to thank the town’s military servicemen and women this week.
The Kershaw Veterans Memorial on the lawn in front of town hall, 113 S. Hampton St., will be dedicated during a ceremony at 11 a.m. Nov. 28.
Kershaw Town Councilman Wade Hunter, who headed up a grassroots committee to raise money for the granite monument, said this is an honor long overdue.

Man charged in shooting death

Gunfire rang out from within a car riding down Memorial Park Road just after 1 p.m. Nov. 25.
Moments later, the driver lay dead from a gunshot to the head, and two passengers were running down a nearby dirt road, one shooting at the other, witnesses said.
After a 40-minute search of the area, Lancaster County deputies captured Danielle Lamar Peay, 28, at his home at 1248 Old Greenbriar Drive, a Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office statement said.

Baby tests positive for marijuana

A 1-year-old child of a Lancaster couple under investigation for child abuse tested positive for marijuana during a recent drug test, the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office incident report said.
The Nov. 20 report said the S.C. Department of Social Services in Lancaster requested drug testing of the couple and their four children, ages 1 to 14, earlier this month as part of an ongoing child abuse investigation.
The report said the 45-year-old father, 38-year-old mother and the couple’s youngest child all tested positive for marijuana.

A rezoning request that may lead to some type of expansion at McClancy Seasoning is back on the table, or at least, talking about it is.
After voting 4-3 earlier this month to deny the rezoning request, on Nov. 23, members of Lancaster County Council passed two motions on the matter.

5 Buford students taken to hospital, none seriously injured

School bus driver cited after crash

A school bus driver was cited Nov. 23 after he pulled into traffic in the Buford community and hit a woman’s oncoming car, sending it into a head-on collision with a pickup truck.
The woman and five of the 21 Buford High School and Buford Middle School students on the bus were transported to Springs Memorial Hospital. No one was seriously hurt. The woman was treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said Nov. 24.

Car rear-ends school bus, five students transported to SMH as a safety precaution

Five Buford-area students were transported to Springs Memorial Hospital early Monday, Nov. 23, to be checked out after their school bus was struck by a car after the bus driver turned into the car's pathway.
The wreck happened about 7:40 a.m. near the intersection of North Rocky River and Cannery roads. School bus No. 57 was headed south and turning left onto Cannery Road when it was hit by a northbound motorist in a Honda sedan who then veered into the southbound lane of North Rocky River Road and struck a pickup head-on.

3i Products bringing 100 jobs to county

Council reveals $3 million project

After months of using a code name, county officials have finally revealed the identity of an electronics manufacturer that plans to invest $3.1 million in Lancaster County and create 100 full-time jobs.
Once known only as “Project Seating,” the company was unveiled as 3i Products Inc. during the Nov. 9 meeting of Lancaster County Council.
As part of its agreement with the county, 3i Products has committed to invest in its new location on a 15.58-acre parcel at 3888 Chester Highway (S.C. 9 Bypass), near the Chester County border.

Town awaits DHEC nod to switch over

Heath Springs’ new water lines in place

HEATH SPRINGS – Phase V, the last stage of water-line upgrades for the town of Heath Springs, has been completed.
Now, it’s just a matter of getting the water flowing.
In the next few days or weeks, problems with low water pressure and discolored water should be resolved.
Heath Springs Town Administrator Tony Starnes updated town council on Phase V at its Nov. 17 meeting.
