Darlings stars win Series opener

The Lancaster County Dixie Softball Darlings all-stars launched play in the World Series, rolling to an 11-0 win over Texas in the team's opener on Saturday.

The Lancaster County Darlings stars, who are unbeaten in postseason play at 12-0, face the Georgia state champion today in Sumter.

Gloves, heads-up play fuel World Series run for Darlings

The Lancaster County Parks and Recreation Dixie Softball Darlings All-Stars have been perfect this postseason and hope to continue on that diamond path as they open Dixie Softball World Series play in Sumter this weekend.
The 11-0 Lancaster County Darlings stars will launch their series quest against Texas at 10 a.m. Saturday.
“Defense has been the hallmark of this team,” said stars coach Gene Knight.

Power outages impact 4,000

UPDATE:
About 4,000 homes and businesses in eastern Lancaster County woke up without electricity Tuesday morning.
The power was not expected to be back on until 10 p.m. Tuesday, said Lancaster County Administrator Steve Willis.
“The damage to the lines was a direct feed out of the retail (sub) station, which ran through the woods,” said Duke Energy spokesman Rick Jiran.

Sheriff: No initial evidence at scene indicating foul play

Jerell White’s body found in Primus pond

On the fourth day of an exhausting search, Jerell White’s body was found Saturday in a pond off Pleasant Road in the Primus community, not far from where he went missing after an altercation at a July 5 party.
An autopsy was performed Sunday, but the Lancaster County Coroner’s Office said Tuesday that results will not be made public for some time.
“The final and complete autopsy results are expected to be available in approximately 2-3 weeks,” the office said in a release.

Search resumes for missing man

Authorities resumed their search for a missing 22-year-old man about 8 a.m. Thursday in the woods off Pleasant Road near Primus Crossroads.
Lancaster County sheriff’s spokesman Doug Barfield said the search for Jerrell White had to be suspended late Thursday due to a combination of a severe, lightning-laced thunderstorm and nightfall.
“We’re back out here looking again,” Barfield said Thursday morning.
White’s last known addresses include 180 Ranson Road, 922 Sherwood Circle and 805 Hudson St.

Massive search launched for missing man

Rescue workers have launched a massive search near Primus Crossroads for a 22-year-old missing man.
Lancaster County Sheriff Barry Faile identified the man as Jerrell White, whose last addresses include 180 Ranson Road, 922 Sherwood Circle and 805 Hudson St.
Faile said White was last seen at a home in the 4000 block of Pleasant Road about 1 a.m. Wednesday.

Gravel truck collides with Jeep, two injured

Wreck shuts down Pageland Highway

A  tractor trailer loaded with gravel collided with a Jeep on S.C. 9 (Pageland Highway) near Dixie Food Mart about 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
The tractor trailer overturned, dumping gravel in the road.
At 4:30 p.m, the highway was still shut down and emergency workers are still clearing the road.
Two ambulances left the scene with the drivers from each vehicle. Their condition is unknown.

Police don’t know if Palmetto Place victims were targets or bystanders

Drive-by double murder

Three men were shot, two fatally, in a drive-by shooting Thursday night at Palmetto Place Apartments on Pardue Street in Lancaster.
A fourth man is now jailed in connection with the case.
Lancaster Police Chief Scott Grant said 36-year-old Courtney Javon McCain turned himself in early Friday morning.
He is charged with one count of accessory after the fact of murder and is awaiting a bond hearing.
Police had been searching for McCain as a person of interest since late Thursday.

N.C. woman charged in fatal bike hit and run

An N.C. woman who allegedly struck a bicyclist late Friday night in the Buford community and then drove away is now in jail.
Diane Elizabeth Kelley, 46, of Lilesville, N.C., turned herself in at the Lancaster County Detention Center on Tuesday afternoon.
S.C. Highway Patrol Cpl. Bill Rhyne said Kelley is charged with leaving the scene of the accident regarding death in connection to the fatal hit and run, which killed Robert B. “Robbie” Sims, of Hopkins Lane.
