N.C. woman charged in fatal bike hit and run

An N.C. woman who allegedly struck a bicyclist late Friday night in the Buford community and then drove away is now in jail.
Diane Elizabeth Kelley, 46, of Lilesville, N.C., turned herself in at the Lancaster County Detention Center on Tuesday afternoon.
S.C. Highway Patrol Cpl. Bill Rhyne said Kelley is charged with leaving the scene of the accident regarding death in connection to the fatal hit and run, which killed Robert B. “Robbie” Sims, of Hopkins Lane.

Tornado warning issued for county until 4:30 p.m.

The National Weather Service in Columbia has issued severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings for Lancaster County until 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
According to the NWS, at 3:48 p.m., doppler radar indicated that a severe thunderstorm producing wind gusts in excess of 60 mph and quarter sized hall was located near Fishing Creek Reservoir or 8 miles south-southwest of Lancaster, moving northeast at 40 mph.
Hail damage is expected to vehicles, roofs, siding and trees.

Flood watch issued for county

Rainy weather in the upcoming days has prompted the National Weather Service in Columbia to issue a flash flood watch until Thursday morning for 18 of the state’s central counties including Lancaster.
A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding.
Other counties in the watch area include Aiken, Bamberg, Barnwell, Calhoun, Chesterfield, Clarendon, Edgefield, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lee, Lexington, McCormick, Newberry, Orangeburg, Richland, Saluda, and Sumter.

S.C. 9 Bypass reopens after metal spill

The eastbound lanes of S.C. 9 Bypass under the North Main Street overpass reopened to traffic about 4 p.m. Monday. The two lanes had been shut down for a little more than six hours after a trailer loaded with scrap metal overturned just after 9:30 a.m., strewing both eastbound lanes with shards of metal in all kinds, shapes and sizes.
The truck cab did not flip over, and the driver was not hurt. For more, see the Wednesday, May 17 edition of The Lancaster News.

Metal truck tips, blocks S.C. 9 Bypass

The two eastbound lanes of S.C. 9 Bypass at the North Main Street overpass are shut down after a trailer loaded with scrap metal overturned just after 9:30 a.m. Monday. The truck cab did not flip over, and the driver was not hurt. He was walking around talking with police.

Firefighters, police and the S.C. Department of Transportation crews are all at the scene.

Both eastbound lanes are strewn with metal, and the cleanup could take hours.

Kershaw couple killed in motorcycle accident

A Saturday evening motorcycle accident claimed the lives of a Kershaw couple.
The Lancaster County Coroner’s Office identified the victims as David McIsaac, 61 and Dana McIsaac, 45.
S.C. Highway Patrol Trooper Joe Hovis said the accident happened about 9:30 p.m. Saturday on Memorial Park Road as the McIsaacs were riding westbound on at 2011 Harley Davidson motorcycle.

Lancaster man dies when truck hits Harley at beach

A Lancaster man died Monday of injuries he received in a motorcycle accident in Myrtle Beach Saturday. 

The Horry County Coroner’s Office said James Starnes, 50, died at Grand Strand Medical Center Monday afternoon from “multiple trauma” sustained in the accident.

Weather service issues storm warning, tornado watch for county

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Lancaster County until 5:15 p.m., as well as a tornado watch for the surrounding areas until 9 p.m. today.

At 4:10 p.m., Doppler Radar indicated a line of severe thunderstorms extending from Southpark Mall in Charlotte to 13 miles west of Winnsboro, moving northeast at 60 mph. The National Weather Service said those along the warning area could expect wind gusts up to 60 mph and penny-size hail.

A tornado watch means that conditions may become favorable for a tornado to develop.
