Fancy Pokket opening still delayed

By Chris Sardelli

Though it’s been three years since county officials signed an incentive agreement for Canadian baked goods company Fancy Pokket, the company has yet to open its facility along
S.C. 9.
Lancaster County officials addressed the delay this week, saying the company has hit a few snags in the construction of its 57,000-square-foot baking plant, preventing them from obtaining a certificate of occupancy (CO).

Firearm purchases: How does it work in S.C.?

By Greg Summers

When it comes to specific gun ownership, if you think there is a federal database showing that John Doe, 123 Main St., Anywhere, USA, owns a Glock 19, think again.
Technically, Uncle Sam has no way of knowing who bought that 9mm pistol, said Tony Bowers, owner of South 200 Firearms.
That’s not how firearms tracking works, said Bowers, who discussed how to legally buy a firearm with The Lancaster News on Jan. 7.

By Greg Summers

The Lancaster Police Department is looking beyond its immediate future in 2016, but it all starts with manpower, said Police Chief Harlean Carter.
Carter sat down with The Lancaster News on Jan. 6 to discuss the department’s short-term and long-term goals going into the new year.
And in several areas, Carter said getting from Point A to Point B requires full staffing. Hiring and retaining a police force is the top priority.

Warming center takes in first guests

Kayland Hagwood
For The Lancaster News

A women’s retreat, marriage retreat or even a children’s camp may soon open on the main floor of Family Healing Community Ministries’ multipurpose building.
But just below the future home of these events is a different kind of retreat.
It’s no beach vacation, but for some people in Lancaster, this retreat provides one element as awesome as the sand and sea – heat.
