Director says all services will continue

Red Cross vacates office

By Jesef Williams

Although its staff will soon be leaving its Woodland Drive office, the local American Red Cross wants Lancaster County residents to know that none of its services will be affected.

Rebecca Melton, executive director for the Red Cross’ Upper Palmetto Chapter, said last week that the Lancaster Red Cross has chosen not to renew its lease at 106-C Woodland Drive, where it’s been housed the last three years. The lease expires at the end of this month.

By Chris Sardelli

There are still no leads in a string of recent car break-ins in Indian Land.

Lancaster County sheriff’s deputies are searching for whoever broke into at least a dozen vehicles throughout several Indian Land neighborhoods May 19-20 and then again May 26.

Sgt. Eric Brown, a crime prevention officer with the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, has sent several e-mail crime alerts during the past week about the break-ins to residents in the northern part of the county.

Another man shot with stun gun in separate incident

Man crashes car after chase

By Chris Sardelli

A Lancaster man was arrested recently after leading police on a car chase along U.S. 521.

The chase began shortly after Lancaster police officers, who were patrolling the intersection of Woodland and Roddey drives at 10:58 a.m. May 11, noticed a man drive by whom they had a warrant on, according to a police department incident report.

The driver, later identified as Charles Henry Davis, 43, 2543 Great Falls Highway, was driving under suspension and made an improper turn, so officers tried to pull him over, the report said.

Edenmoor deadline extended

By Reece Murphy

The Lancaster County Forfeited Land Commission has extended the deadline for a Charlotte-based real estate developer to present a viable purchase contract for Edenmoor.

The Forfeited Land Com-mission (FLC) had set a May 17 deadline for a purchase contract from the developer, Eden Ventures.

FLC Chairman John Lane said the company met the deadline, but commissioners granted the extension in light of a new Eden Ventures proposition that would speed up the purchase process.
