USCL professor spotlights short fiction of Elliott White Springs, ponders what might have been.

A textile icon's literary legacy

By Greg Summers

He might have become one of the early 20th Century’s great writers, along with F. Scott Fitzgerald, Thomas Wolfe and William Faulkner, but Elliott White Springs gave up his New York literary life in 1931 when his father died and came home to Lancaster to run the family business.
Springs was probably even a notch above those contemporaries, says Dr. Christopher Bundrick, a USC Lancaster associate professor of English who is researching Springs’ writings for a new book.

Police say purse snatching, robbery related

By Greg Summers

Police say a purse snatching and strong-arm robbery last week in parking lots at businesses near the S.C. 9 Bypass are related.
Both victims were women in their 70s, one suspect has roughly the same description and both happened in retail store parking lots.
“It certainly appears that way,” said Capt. Scott Grant, interim Lancaster Police Department chief. “Everything points to the same people, based on suspect descriptions and circumstances. That’s what we are looking at.”
