Everything about Haile mine is just ginormous

Sherrill C. Mullis
Special to The Lancaster News

On the road again, just 20 miles from home this time, to Haile Gold Mine.
The OceanaGold Corp. project is a sight to see, and it’s right here in Lancaster County, just east of Kershaw.
My grandson Thomas Bailey has been working there for going on two years now. Thomas knew that I’ve been wanting to take a tour of the place. I heard some politicians had been going there from time to time, but I’m surely not one of those!

Ja’Von Crockett back in Lancaster for annual festival celebrating youth

By Greg Summers

When Ja’Von Crockett sees children laughing and playing with their parents, he can’t help but wonder how his life would’ve turned out had his dad been there.
“When he came back around, we were getting ready to graduate,” Crockett said. “We didn’t hardly know him. And to tell you the truth, I couldn’t even tell you what his favorite flavor of ice cream was.”

Oliver put SCHP on front lines in trying times

Top trooper retires

By Greg Summers

Mike Oliver knew he wanted to be a Highway Patrol trooper at age 6.
He was standing up in the backseat of his parent’s car on Doc Garris Road south of Lancaster when a drunk driver sideswiped them and sent them into a ditch. The driver didn’t stop.
“Daddy was able to turn around and follow him home,” Oliver recalls. “I can remember the trooper coming to the scene, and me and Daddy got in the car to show him where the man lived.”
The trooper went inside the man’s house and hauled him out to face charges.
