University of South Carolina Lancaster
The public is invited to the official opening of the nature trail at the University of South Carolina Lancaster at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 22. The trail is the result of the combined work of USCL, the Catawba Master Naturalist Association and Boy Scout Troop 71. The half-mile of gently sloping trail meanders through pine forests, bottom-land hardwoods, stream-side habitats and upland hardwoods with various plant and animal life.

The Martin Luther King Jr. Social Action Committee Inc. (MLK-SAC), Food Lion LLC and Citadel of Hope Christian Fellowship will present the ninth annual MLK Memorial Peace Conference at 2 p.m. April 4 at the Fairway Room at the Springs Golf Course, 1821 Springs Club Road.
The celebration will mark the 44th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This year’s theme is “Remaining Hopeful through the Storm.”

Lancaster Women’s Club
The Lancaster Women’s Club will sponsor Jam’n for a Cure from 9 a.m. to 2 a.m. March 23 at Famdamily’s Restaurant and Tavern, 1227 Great Falls Highway.
Admission is $5 and proceeds benefit Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society.
Featured bands include A Few Shots Down, The Pam Taylor Band, Eight Oh Tree and Element. Dance music will be provided by DJ J Dub. There will also be a raffle for several prizes.

University of South Carolina Lancaster Diabetes Education Clinic, Carolina Literacy Network and the Catawba Lions Club are sponsoring a health screening for Diabetes Alert Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 27 at the Carole Ray Dowling Center on Hubbard Drive.
In 2011, the American Diabetes Association encouraged Americans to Join the Millions challenge and more than 600,000 people took the diabetes risk test.

The Catawba Salkehatchie Camp is looking for residents in Indian Land and Fort Mill who need help with substantial home repairs June 16-23.
Since 1998, Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church has hosted 60 plus campers each summer for a work week that has helped more than 75 homeowners in Indian Land, Van Wyck and Fort Mill.
The camp invites referrals from local agencies, such as the Indian Land Council on Aging, S.C. Department of Social Services and the Fort Mill Care Center, as well as local churches and individual concerned citizens.

The city of Lancaster will celebrate the arrival of Spring on May 18 with the third Annual Red Rose Festival. The 2012 event includes an outdoor concert, arts, crafts, and Kids Zone from 5 to 10 p.m. on May 18 and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on May 19 in beautiful historic downtown Lancaster.
This year’s festival features more than 75 artisans, crafters, food vendors, as well as an A-list of nationally and locally known music artists.
