CLEMSON – A dry 2016 coupled with a late summer cold front brought on by Tropical Storm Irma has jumpstarted fall color in the southern Appalachians.
Clemson University forest ecologist Don Hagan, in his annual fall foliage assessment, reports that the bounty of fall colors enjoyed by so many leaf lookers and businesses is seven to 10 days ahead of schedule in some areas.

It’s that time of year again! Kids of all ages are flocking to Lancaster County churches for food, fun and fellowship during Vacation Bible School.
Churches in our area are offering VBS throughout the summer.
Myra Boone has directed VBS at different churches for 10 years. Now a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church, she thinks it’s important for kids to participate in church programs like Bible school so they can “grow and learn” and “to make sure those kids who don’t know about Jesus learn about him.”

A trio of beautifully decorated country homes in the Rich Hill community of Heath Springs will sparkle in the yuletide spotlight Sunday during the Lancaster Garden Club’s 30th Annual Christmas Tour of Homes.
For Jodi and Joey Franklin, the luminous shades come from rooms lined with Santas and rich earth tones inside their Dean Lane home.
The Franklins’ neighbors Leslie and Dixon Parker let their holiday spirit glow with child-centered, you’re-allowed-to-touch décor.

The Springdale Recreation Complex is home to a new 9-hole disc golf course friendly to all ages.
The 3-par course was funded by a grant from the J. Marion Sims Foundation.
Disc golf sets were donated to middle schools in the county and Springdale was given an extra set, said Hal Hiott, the county’s parks and recreation director.
The set was installed in two days by the staff and Lancaster resident Steve Lambert, who designed the course.
