Chicken: It’s what’s for dinner

Recently chicken was on sale at the grocery store so I stocked up. Each time I open my freezer, though, I realize I may have gone a bit overboard.

I need to clear some space, so we’re having chicken this week in my house. But I’m not worried about everyone getting bored, because there are so many delicious chicken recipes.

I love chicken salad and Stacey Vadas’ Fabulous Chicken Salad.

Catch Christmas spirit in Van Wyck

The Christmas spirit will be contagious at two Van Wyck events this weekend.
Grand marshal Clarence Witherspoon will lead the annual Christmas parade at noon Saturday, Dec. 13, and a candle-lighting worship event will take participants through four churches at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14.
The Van Wyck Community Development Club hosts the two events during the second weekend in December, appealing to those who enjoy holiday tradition and the charm of a small community.

Pumpkin spice: A passing fad or classic fall favorite?

Ten years ago, Starbucks introduced its Pumpkin Spiced Latte. The mix of Starbucks’ signature espresso, milk, whipped cream and a mysterious pumpkin spice syrup was surprisingly good.
The drink has now become a fall staple for many coffee drinkers. It was different, and maybe that’s what made it so popular.
Now, however, a trip down the grocery store aisles in late October reveals food companies have gone “pumpkin spice crazy.”

Friends, football, family and food

 Fall is on its way, and with it the foliage begins to turn, along with a slight nip in the evening air. And for my family and friends, it’s football time. 

The sport is big business in my part of the country - and everywhere else for that matter. Next to which rivalry is playing out on any given weekend, the most important part of the day is what’s on the menu.

No football party is complete without something “buffalo” (at least in my eyes).
